Today’s National No Smoking Day so I thought I would mention my experience.
I gave up smoking nearly three years ago; I don’t know the exact date because I tried not to make a big deal of it. I had always said that when I no longer enjoyed smoking I would
‘packet’ pack it in, but I don’t think anyone believed me.
Anyway… cigarettes are so expensive (about £10 now for 20) and I was always loyal to a premium brand. I felt guilty about being loyal to the brand so would only smoke two of those a day, and the rest of the time I would smoke a cheap brand which I really didn’t enjoy.
At some point it dawned on me that for the most part I wasn’t enjoying cigarettes and decided to quit. I didn’t quit straight away, or even the next week. I was waiting for one thing and one thing only… I was waiting to get a cold. You see, I’ve never been able to smoke when I have a cold, so that to me was the perfect time to give up, a head start.
So sure enough somewhere down the line I got a cold, and this was my starting point, or ‘stopping’ point! I battled the cold, cigarette free as usual, then when my cold had gone and I was thinking about ciggies I smoked an e-cigarette, but just for four weeks, after which I stopped that too. And that was it. That was nearly three years ago.
